How to best use Solar energy for growing hydroponic fodder in hot climates like India?

Considering population& ecological pressures, Sustainable Hydroponics is a possible future intervention.For countries like India, which face acute fodder shortage during draught summer months, lot of cheap fodder could be raised by Hydroponics which makes use of the only natural asset available that is Sunshine and Hot weather

Electricity is required to provide water (pumping, filtering etc) and power the control systems; this can be provided by solar plus storage devices

Hydroponics relies complicated (ie fragile/prone to breakdown/expensive to repair) systems and structures to monitor and manage the growing environment. Specialised seeds are also required locking you into buying from seed companies. Mono-cultures are also vunerable to pest and disease so require agro-chemicals.

Better sustainable systems, can be found through permaculture design. This focuses on the interaction of systems; so if drought is the limting feature there are simple techniques for harvesting and conserving it.

Consider why fodder is required – are you trying to provide meat? if so consider more efficient animals like chicken and goats.

If the animals are for transport or agricultural power then consider making electric motors that can be powered by solar, I know there are some solar powered rickshaws in India that could be developed for this.
