What are the drawbacks of using CFLs for indoor growing, hydroponics?

CFL’s have fewer lumen’s so you have to grow smaller plants and place the lamps very close to the tops.

They are cheap and available everywhere.They are excellent for starting seedlings for early season seedlings or cuttings.They do have a better colour temperature using daylight suitable for plant growth cycle but not the fruiting cycle you will need another lamp warm white but the outcome will be small due to lower lumen’s. It is better to fruit with a High Intensity discharge Lamp but there are drawbacks there to with heat. Better still start seedlings before spring and transfer outside for the best result.

Join a hydroponics forum or get a book there are many out there. Information is easy to come by its the putting into practice that is the difficult part
